The Alphonso is also one of the most expensive varieties of mango and is grown mainly in western India including places such as Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Guhaghar, and Raigad districts and in the Konkan region of India. Each mango weighs between 150 and 300 grams. As per the weight of mangoes grades has been defined and it is graded into G1(251-275grams) price Rs.650.00 , G2(226-250grams) price Rs.600.00,G3(201-225grams) price Rs.500.00 and G4(176-200grams) price Rs.400.00 .
The so-called king of mangoes, the Alphonso is also the most exported variety. Around 60% of all its exports go to the Middle East. Grown most famously in the Ratnagiri,Guhaghar region of Maharashtra, it is also found along the western parts of Gujarat and Karnataka. The fruit is famous for its thin skin, orange flesh and sweetness, as well as being the most overpriced mango anyone can find. But because the European Union has decided to disallow Indian imports this year after finding fruit flies in some consignments, local fans could find the Alphonso becoming more affordable.

The skin of a fully ripe Alphonso mango turns bright golden yellow with a tinge of red which spreads across the top of the fruit.
